How to photograph paintings?

1) Set it up on a wall or easel. Make sure it is level, straight up and down, and perpendicular to your camera's line of vision (use a tripod if you can afford one.
2) Make sure there is good lighting that provides crisp, even illumination (do whatever it takes to eliminate the glare----this will prove to be more of a challenge with glossy finishes) 3) If possible, import it into Photoshop as Camera RAW. I don't know anything about photography, but I believe this format allows you to import it unchanged with no loss in quality. 4) Straighten and crop the image. Then, adjust the colour balance and contrast using the image adjustment method(s) of your choice. Finally, sharpen the image if you think it's necessary. |
